How does Etracine work?
The Etracine programmer has embedded a sequence using a binaural modulating digital carrier signal, which is similar to binaural beats, but far more potent, in that it creates high-frequency entrainment within the brain, leading to hyper suggestive and unnaturally energized states of consciousness. The reason for this is physiological. Each ear is "hardwired" (so to speak) to both hemispheres of the brain. Each hemisphere has its own olivary nucleus (sound-processing center) which receives signals from each ear. In keeping with this physiological structure, when the DCS is perceived there are actually two oscillating waves of equal amplitude and frequency present, one in each hemisphere. So, there are two separate standing waves entraining portions of each hemisphere to the same frequency. The DCS signals appear to contribute to the hemispheric synchronization evidenced in meditative and hypnogogic states of consciousness, however its specific pattern creates entrainment-inducing frequencies in both the 11Hz (Alpha) and 60 Hz (Gamma) ranges. An increase of cross-collosal communication between the left and right hemispheres of the brain is also affected.
While it is clear that exposure to these signals will effect brain function, the exact effects vary from subject to subject. However, the process depends on stereo monitoring to be effective (listening to both the left and right speakers at the same time), so monaural playback, or listening to only one speaker renders the DCS harmless. The process should be considered particularly dangerous when using stereo headphones.
